Within SendReach there are three types of Email Suppression Lists, often referred to as Blacklists.
- External blacklists operated by bl.spamcop.net and zen.spamhaus.org, the top two in the industry.
- An ongoing SendReach blacklist created from email addresses that meet any of the criteria below
- A User (you) populated Suppression List to which you can add any email addresses you do not want to send emails to – for whatever reason
It is beneficial to avoid sending emails to email addresses that meet certain criteria.
- The email address is of an invalid format – so bounces
- The email address is no longer active – so bounces
- The email address is being used as a Spam Trap by the likes of Gmail, Yahoo, AOL and Microsoft. (That is where the email address is one of their free ones, is no longer actively used by one of their Users and so they know that any emails sent to it are not being sent to a valid and current subscriber – so they reject the email, and record the sending as a black mark on the reputation of the Sending Domain of the SR User concerned, and SendReach itself.)
- The User of the email address consistently reports incoming emails as Spam – wether they actually are or not
- The email address has been listed on one of the 300 or so public blacklists for any one of dozens of reasons, some valid some definitely not valid – the most reputable ones, and really the only ones referred to by the big email processors are Spamcop and Spamhaus
- The IP Address used to send the email is blacklisted on the DBL (The Spamhaus Domain Block List (DBL) is a realtime database of spam domains including spam payload URLs, spam sources and senders, known spammers and spam gangs, and phish, virus and malware-related sites.)
All subscriber emails either imported or obtained via Optin are checked against those three categories of suppression lists, AND are also checked again as they are mailed to.
