Role Accounts are email addresses that use an indication of a Role, Task or Job such as Info@ – Sales@ – Admin@ – Support@ etc. etc. rather than a person’s name. Basically, if the text preceding @ is not a First or Last Name it will be a Role Account.
That raises two issues.
- Emails sent to such email addresses are likely to be opened by several different people who check or respond to emails sent to it. Only one of those people will have used it to subscribe to a Mailing List, the others, who have not opted in are therefore technically being spammed. On that basis the ISPs and Spam Filters are now routing email marketing emails sent to such addresses to the Spam Folder. Mailing them is therefore counter productive as not only will the email not be read, but every email routed to the spam folder is damaging to YOUR online reputation as a sender of marketing emails, and that of SendReach and other SendReach Users.
- Those other people opening such emails, the ones who did not optin, are VERY likely to hit the “Report Abuse” link for obvious reasons.
We therefore no longer accept subscribers using such Role Account Addresses, either as imports or conventional new optin subscribes. The mailing scripts now also ignore any such addresses that were already in existing V3. Lists. The result has been a drop in Abuse Reports of over 70% – obviously to everyone’s advantage.
For all the same reasons a few Role Accounts should not be used as “Sending EMail Addresses” or for receiving SendReach Notifications such as New Subscriber Alert Emails.
These are the ones we currently suppress, but the list changes constantly to reflect what the ISPs are suppressing.
