There are times where one needs to request information from a subscriber, but limit the number of possible answers so that one can utilise various database functions based on the response data.
As an illustration, the example below asks Subscribers what their favorit type of wine is, giving three choices of white and three choices of red. Based on the answers, one or more, one could create a segment of a List to send a Campaign to only those who select Sauvignon Blanc or Bordeaux, Etc.
This is achieved using a “Multi Choice Field” as below, where there is no limit to how many alternatives you provide. First add the new field in Lists > Your List > Overview > Custom Fields.
Now set up the field and add as many alternative choices as you require.
That field will now appear in your Optin Form as below. Fred Smith has selected Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz and clicks Subscribe.
The subscriber record now includes that data which can used as the basis for a List Segment to maybe send a Campaign to just those subscribers who really enjoy Sauvignon Blanc – or any other of the six choices of wine. To filter based on a field with more than one choice in it (which will be comma seperated as below) you use the “Contains” Segmenting Condition.
