Opens and Clicks are recorded in the Stats, but also need to be recorded so that the data can be used in Segmenting for future Campaigns, and to remove Unopens if required.
To be able to send a Campaign to those who clicked a link in a previous Campaign you have to first set up Custom Fields to record whether a subscriber has Clicked the link in that previous Campaign or not, and then set up “Conditions” to change a default “No” value to a “Yes” value if they did.
It is also useful to record who did, and who did not, Open a previous Campaign.
In “Lists” > Your List > Custom Fields set up two Fields as below (they are included in all new Lists by default), ensuring you set the “Default Value” to “No” as you will then be able to search on “No” to create a segment of those who have not Opened an email from you, and create a segment of those who have Opened an email.
Then in “Campaigns” > Your Campaign > “Setup” you add the Field and Value for Opens.
In Campaign “Setup” now Select the Field “Opens” and set the Field Value to “Yes”, as above. When anyone Opens your Campaign the default value of “No” will be automatically changed to “Yes”. You will then be able to send a Campaign to just those with EITHER “Yes” or “No” in that field.
You then need to repeat that for the field recording “Clicks”, but that is set up in the “Campaign Template” Page and can ONLY be done AFTER a link has been inserted in the Campaign and the Template hase been “Saved”, as below.
You can then setup “Segments” in “List” > Your List > “Segments”, one for those that DID Open your Campaign and one for those that did NOT Open your Campaign, and two for those who did, and those who did not, click that Link, or any pecific link when you have more than one.
There is no Limit to how many Links you can record Clicks on in any one Campaign, but you will of course need a custom field for each one.
You CAN also Copy or Move a Subscriber to another List if they Click a Link using the “Actions Against Subscriber on Link Click” button.
The Segment can be set in “Campaigns” > Your Campaign > “Details” as below. If your first Campaign has already gone out it will hopefully not indicate (0 Subscribers) in the Segment! Had you selected the other Segment then the Camapign would go to those who had NOT Opened your initial Campaign.
You can select to only send a Regular Campaign to “Opens” or “NotOpens” in Campaigns > Your Campaign > Confirmation – providing of course the List in question has already been sent a Campaign.
To remove those from a List that have not Opened a Campaign, create a segment of those who did Open a Campaign, Copy the Subscribers in that Segment to a new List, and then delete the original List.
