Gmail clips emails that have a message “size” larger than 102kb, and hides the full content behind a “View entire message” link.
- Multiple test emails were sent with the same subject line
Gmail often combines, or “threads,” emails with the same subject line into a single email in your inbox. If you send several test emails for the same campaign, this can lead to the message becoming so large that Gmail clips the test email. When your email is sent to subscribers, the content will be sent only once, so clipping shouldn’t occur for that reason.
- Content was added by pasting from a website or word-processing program (No issue from V2.)
If you pasted content from an outside source, such as your blog or a word-processing program, then it is possible that extra, hidden formatting code was added to your campaign’s underlying code. That is often in the form of “Background Image” code and can add 2/3 thousand LINES of code to a Campaign.With the functionality of the Email Template Builder and the Campaign Editor there is no reason to be creating Campaigns in other Applications. If you MUST then first paste it into a Plain Text Editor, save it, then paste into your Campaign.Typically, a Campaign created in the Editor that has 40 lines of code could have over 3,000 lines of code if imported from some 3rd party Applications that where never actually designed to create emails!-, word processing platforms usually being the worst offenders.

- There’s a lot of content
If the above options don’t seem to be the cause of the clipped message, it is likely that your campaign just has a lot of content. The first recommendation would be to cut any content that may be unnecessary. Before you cut content, we recommend that you create a copy of the campaign. This will maintain a copy of your campaign with all the original content, just in case content is accidentally deleted.If you have that much content you really are not addressing your communication requirements in the most proficient way. Minimise the content of your Campaign and include a link, or maybe two, to web pages that contain the information that caused you Campaign to be too “big”. You cannot afford to have Gmail “clipping” your Campaigns as GMail Addresses may well represent over 50% of your List, and response rates from “clipped” emails are dramatically reduced as a result.
It is easy to misunderstand how images effect the “size” of a Campaign. “Size” has nothing to do with visible area as was said above, and the same applies to the images, as reducing the size of an image does not reduce the amount of code in the image src link that calls the image from a server. However, Gmail are also likely to label a Campaign as spam (different to “clipping”) if images represent more than 18% of the visible area.
